Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles Ordered to Pay Over $1 Million in Racial Discrimination Suit - Eater LA

I thought this was pretty interesting. I haven't been to Roscoe's in a long time especially the pico location, but I was surprised that the article mentions that the management was all hispanic.. Last time I went it seemed to be mostly black employees working there.

Is anyone else pretty surprised about this?

Isn't Roscoe's owned by a black family?

They've always had a lot of Black staff, and I think "Roscoe" owns the Pico one. "Roscoe" is an older Black guy who looks like a wrinkly Blaxploitation era pimp, has the perm and all. Also, R.I.P. to Mama Ella.

Sorry to hear about Mama Ella.. I remember seeing her many times at the Pico location back in the day

^Yep, that's how Mama Ella was!! She passed away maybe 2 years ago now.

My friend Laron is talking about the issue now...he works for the Roscoe's Media Center inside of Brownstone Bistro, all owned by the same people. He says that the employee was fired because missed a week of work without ever asking for permission or calling in, and that he came back afterwards saying that his father died. It sounds like there's a lot of internal conflicts going on with the management.

Interesting..I thought it sounded kind of fishy. I think in general a lot of these types of lawsuits are done more out of revenge than of actually being wronged in a way.

Even if someone is in the wrong and then get fired, they might want to "get back" at the employer by suing.
Kind of sad when people just want to use the legal system as a lotto ticket.

Really? I think it's pretty good. I've noticed it's become pretty popular and is now pretty common on a lot of restaurant menus.
