PS: right now we are living in the 9th most miserable city (according to that article), Charlotte, NC.

Everybody finds someplace miserable. If you don't like where you are, move. If you don't like it there, move again... and again... and again, if you have to, to find someplace you like. There are thousands of cities and thousands of choices, all open to those willing to take the chance and make the opportunity.

There is always some reason or excuse not to move. Some cities ARE worse than others, but, ultimately, the only thing making most people miserable is themselves. Personally, I like L.A. But there are a lot of really miserable people there... and a lot of other cities where they would probably be less so.
