My current place didn't need credit, its a roach motel tho so don't know if you would WANT an apartment that doesn't require credit. Why not get a credit card and buy your groceries with it or something? Pay it off every month and your renting options will be unlimited.

I've been reading over the forum and I've read some posts where people said they use craigslist to find apartments or rentals that don't require a credit check. And you can't really get a credit card without having credit.

I'm sure you will be able to find a place that isn't owned by a corporation that will be willing to rent to you as long as you have enough income.

You can absolutely get a credit card without having credit. Got to start somewhere. Apply online for starter cards and make a few purchases a month and pay it off so you don't have any interest charges.

I have a checking and savings account at chase I read online that I could get a credit card from my bank is this true? So basically if I have no credit I would be paying double amount for rent each month?

judging from OP's other posts they don't have credit or a job and don't live here so odds of getting an apartment are zero. Honestly if you don't even know how to get a credit card then you probably aren't ready to be living on your own. This is the type of person that if they magically got an apartment would forget to pay the rent

I do have a job but I work as an independent contractor for a company. I asked the question about if I would need credit to get a credit card. Because I've read online where a lot of people have said you need a previous credit history in order to apply for a credit card. Also continuously applying for credit cards and being rejected online can hinder you from being accepted. I know most people start off with a secured credit card.

Maybe the OP is Dave Ramsey-ish? You don't NEED credit to function in this world, it's just what they want you to think. If you show the proper 1099's or paystubs or whatever you have, and you can provide the references they desire, you should be able to get a rental.

I just got off the phone with Capital One and they said I could get a secured credit card. To help build my credit stating that I needed need credit in order to get the card. So basically I couldn't apply for a Dental Assistant job in LA while currently living in Michigan? Since I'd have to show 1099 or paystubs? Basically I'd have to work as Dental Assistant in Michigan for awhile before I could apply for an apartment in LA?
