Am I missing anything? LA isn't my favorite city in the world but there is no way you can say it isn't a "world class city". It checks every box. You can make an argument about education because of LAUSD but as everyone knows LA isn't the city of LA it's LA County and beyond and there are several public school systems in LA that are as good as any in the country/world. People like to complain about public transit but it's better then most major cities in the United States

For every other category I would put LA in top 1-3 cities in the United States...which makes it world class
I agree man, well said.

Where is YoungTraveler2011? He'd have the ideas that the OP is looking for. Always says LA is a 3rd world country.

Here are my ideas. Rebuild LAX, tear down Skid Row, ship all the homeless to Hawaii, build a casino near LA Live, create a few more subway lines, Manhattanize the Valley.

Make LA great again!

Go car free and live near the Red line. The ability to live car free is an important part of any world class city, right?

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm going to make one serious attempt at a response in this thread to say this:

OP, the reason you are being ridiculed by me and others is not that your ideas are entirely without merit. That's not the problem. The problem is that we've already discussed the majority of them to death in this forum and you walk in, with zero C-D credibility, and post a four-page essay that purports to solve all that ails us, but fail to take into account (or at least mention) the realities of what's needed to make any of your ideas work. That's at best naive and at worst arrogant. Putting "Megathread" in the title hasn't helped much, either. As mentioned before, we are familiar with your kind, having had a few notable lovable goofs around here long before you hit the "Register" button, and do not suffer fools gladly. You then further complicated matters by trying to act like an authority figure in a place you have none. Had you bothered to read some of the threads here and familiarize yourself with the forum, you wouldn't have appeared so tone-deaf and quixotic.

Subsidize the development of public transport and reduce traffic by turning most highways into toll roads, enforcing HOV lanes and limiting the number of vehicles allowed to enter the city (like Europe is doing) and increasing the gasoline tax. Price discrimination works - if you make it lucrative enough for a group of people to forgo driving in favor of taking the bus or the train, you've done it. You'll have riots on your hands, but if you happen to survive the first couple of rounds, you might actually be on to something.
