Specific apmt complexes in sherman oaks/studio city (Moorpark: apartment complexes, lease)

Hello! To add another cliched post, Im moving to LA from DC in AUgust. Ive checked out a lot of these past threads but I am wondering if anyone has any direct experiences with apartment complexes in sherman oaks or studio city. Do you have specific names and/or details of your experiences in your place?

As a fyi im looking for a three bedroom up to about 2300 in price but would be appreciative of information on any kind of apartment experience you have had even if only a one or two br. Im just looking to get a good idea of what SPECIFIC places are better and what roads are best/a "catch" bc i dont think ill be able to get out there to see it before i sign a lease. Thanks sooooo much! Hopefully ill be paying it forward next year and can offer my own advice.

Its tough signing a lease without actually having a chance to visit the property. Most places are nice but my advice would be to stay away from anyplace located on Moorpark. The area is nice but this entire street is subject to extreme liquid faction in earthquakes. Most places were rebuilt after the Northridge earthquake but since this street lies on the old Tujunga wash, it is one of the worst areas in the entire valley for earthquakes.

If you're curious about specific buildings, you can try looking them up on apartmentratings.com. Obviously you have to take the reviews with a grain of salt, but it might give you some direction in terms of knowing what to expect.

In my (albeit limited) L.A. experience (I'm relocating as well right now,) I think you are going to find it somewhat difficult to find a 3-bedroom apartment. They simply don't seem to be that plentiful. If you can make do with a large 2-bedroom, you might have better luck finding something, especially something in your price range. Good luck!

three-bedroom apartments are scarce here. historically, working and middle class families in LA could afford to buy their own homes, and usually did by the time their second child came along, so there was no market for very large apartments. the life-long renter, raising a family in an apartment, is a relatively new phenomenon in LA. some older contruction will have a small percentage of 3BR units, but those are typically in the less desirable parts of the city. they are also likely to be rent-controlled, and packed to the gills with twelve people each, so don't count on too many vacancies. for a third bedroom, one really needs to rent a house.

Thanks guys! I a new to the whole earthquake thing so that is something I did not even think about. I have decided to look for a room in a two br in the 700-800 range in sherman oaks/studio city or west hollywood area. If you know of anyone PLEASE let me know.
