I'm craigslisting places around the city and found one that's nice and in my range in WeHo (N. Orlando at Melrose). Got a question though, I know WeHo in general has a large gay population, but how about this area specifically? Even if it's not predominently gay, would it fit a more "Metro" kind of dude than I? In other words, would I have to drive a ways to find the nearest sports bar to watch the game? Sorry if I sound homophobic or otherwise unaccepting (gay people are nice and hilarious usually), I just want to know what I'm dealing with. Thanks for your help.

That is a nice area and a nice street. Have a friend who lives on Orlando just north of Melrose and he loves it. West Hollywood is a very very nice place to live no matter what your sexual preference. I would love to live there myself and especially on that street which is quiet and nice.

I dont know of any sports bars in the area but if there are any Im sure you would be just fine there.

Barney's Beanery is just up the street from the address you mentioned on Santa Monica near La Cienega, and is a good place to catch a game. I'm not sure of its popularity among the gay crowd, but i've always had a good time there and I'm straight.

I would say Santa Monica Blvd is more 'gay' friendly in WeHo. Melrose? Youre are near a really cool street my man...restaurants, bars, shops and cafe's everywhere within walking distance.

I live just south of West Hollywood (actually share its zip code), and although known for its gay population, I think WeHo is pretty much open to all people.

The area you are looking at is a good location, with plenty of options for straight peeps. Someone else mentioned Barney's Beanery. Definitely a straight-oriented, sports bar type place. Lots of pretty women in the Weho area too.

Most of the gay vibe is up on Santa Monica Blvd, but that shouldn't deter you from going there. There are lots of great restaurants there and other cool things to discover. And Halloween is great there. They close down Santa Monica Blvd and everyone parades around in costume. It's always fun.

Thanks for your replies. From what I've heard so far is that it's a nice central location with lots to do. At least it would be a nice place to start out until I get my bearings.

Another sports bar east on Melrose is El Guapo.
