Would I be stuck in traffic leaving Hollywood around 9am going to Van Nuys Blvd in Sherman Oaks? I would have to drop off my daughter there every morning around 10am and pick her up at 4pm. Am I looking at sitting in traffic during these times both ways?

You might as well prepare yourself. You will be in traffic. no way around it. if you leave before 4, then there will be traffic but it wont be that bad as opposed to leaving like at 5. The really bad part is you going back to Hollywood. But once you reach the universal city area, traffic lightens up a little bit but then it backs up at about western again. Trust me the commute isnt that bad though so don't be scared. the trip time is fairly shorter than you think. Ive done it a million times.

I think i'm going to switch the class time around and only have to drop off at 7pm but that means I would leave Hollywood around 6pm. How about taking Laurel Canyon Blvd all the way up and then take Oxnard/Chandler/Magnolia over to Van Nuys?

That is more or less my wife's commute to work (She goes all the way to Calabasas). I really don't think taking Laurel Canyon is necessary - in fact the one time my wife tried to take it, it ended being just as long if not longer.

There will be days where you will want to tear your hair out, but I don't think it is that bad of a commute (especially considering my wife's commute is much further).

Yes i agree. just like i said it isnt that bad of a commute. its fairly close.
i suppose if you are getting off the freeway at Lauryn canyon, you can make a left on chandler, then go all the way down. then make a u-turn (if you can) and you'll be there. there never is traffic on chandler ever so that's the good part but im not sure how much time it will save you, if any.
