Did anyone see/read about the attacks on the costumed characters in front of Grauman's Theatre?

Has anyone encountered aggressive CD peddlers like this?
I remember walking in Venice and having thugs like that pester me to listen to their CD, and when I said I didn't want to buy one, getting maddogged by them.
Are they trying to get street cred by beating up on Nacho Libre and Batman?
Has West Coast rap fallen off that bad??

It's easy to get them away from you in Venice. Just say you don't like rap or hip hop and they'll leave you alone. No maddogging involved. Since almost all of those vendors are peddling rap/hip hop that usually does the trick (although once I was pestered by a decidedly non-thuggish peddler in Venice trying to push Fleetwood Mac videos on me - I said if they didn't have Peter Green on them I wasn't interested. The peddler walked away totally baffled not knowing what I was talking about.)
