Hi All-
I had a wonderful road trip last Saturday 4.10.2010 with my friend Sean to my 89-year-old maternal grandfather's 1st cousin's house in Sulphur Springs (actually Winnsboro, TX not far from Sulphur Springs), Butcher Boys Smokehouse & Deli (Est. 1977) in Nacogdoches, Waffle House in Vidor where we met a young minister friend of mine (youth min. of Pine Forest Baptist Church in Vidor), L'Auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Janis Joplin's parents' house at 4330 32nd St. in Port Arthur, TX, free lodging with a friend and his wife at their home in Houston (actually Spring, TX).
Sunday 4.11.2010 we ate lunch at Texas Burger in Crockett, TX before having dinner with friends of mine in Tyler, TX before returning home to Dallas (actually McKinney, TX). It was 900 miles in 2 days, all driven by Sean in his Seandai Hyundai Sonata b/c I don't use the hwy b/c I can't find the towns or fight the semi trucks & traffic, esp. in places like Houston!!
stopped at Cotten's famous hamburgers in Lake Charles but it was closed so we had Saturday dinner with my friends in Houston (Spring, TX) at 3 B's-Bill's Burgers & Beer (it's wonderful!!) on Rayford Road in Spring, TX.
This trip was my 5th & final trip to Louisiana:
(1) took plane to New Orleans with my parents (March 2002)
2) drove to Shreveport with undergraduate college roomate from Senior Year at Texas Tech in Lubbock, drove back same day, college roomate said that was too much driving in one day (9 April 2006). He, like many others, also said Lake Charles was too far to drive me!!
3)drove to Shreveport again with undergraduate college roomate from Senior Year at Texas Tech in Lubbock, (15-16 Septmber 2006) & stayed at America's Best Value Inn-Bossier City.
4)drove to Monroe (9 February 2008 after another visit to Cousin Willie's House in Winnsboro, Texas) b/c of some great youtube videos (here are the weblinks: Monrock Trailer

5) Cousin Willie's House Winnsboro, Texas (for the last time b/c I'm in the process of moving from McKinney, TX to Norman, OK), Nacogdoches, the Golden Triangle of Texas, L'Auberge du Lac Casino-Lake Charles, Houston, Crockett & Tyler. Thank you Sean Riley!!
I only drive on surface streets only in McKinney only to FBC McKinney, Dairy Queen & the public library. Friends/family take me on the highway far away. I like the improved safety & 15 years of solo surface street driving since I was age 17 (1995) with no tickets!!

I am biding my time... my son will graduate next year from barbe and then i am outta here!!! The crime is getting too bad and I have just had enough... Housing is way to expensive and as far as the things to do here... it is definitely not for the "family". There are bars and casinos and tons of restaurants but slowly they are closing because of the economy. I have a hair salon and the street that it is on has the most foot traffic and businesses are getting broken into daily and like I said... I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!! I have lived here all my life and there has to be somewhere out there that is better than this.. I am looking at moving to Colorado, clean air and more environmentally friendly. Our gulf coast is ruined by the oil spill and now the fishing and shrimping industry is dead. UGHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I have lived in lake charles for 30 years. I just moved to wichita, ks 3 months ago. I have a b.s in biology from mcneese state. The truth is I love lake charles very much but since i've moved to wichita we are doing so much better. I found a great job the first week here. The cost of living is great. My parents still live in lake charles. Rent is high compared to the pay and if your lucky enough to know someone with pull; you have a good chance at a goon job.. go lsu tigers

I actually graduated from Barbe high in 2005, and I now have a B.A. in sociology from mcneese. I'd like to get my feet in the door w/ a entry job, but many of them want a masters of social work degree which mcneese doesnt have. I'd like to actually be a guidance counscelor though.

I graduated from St. Louis HS three years ago and moved to Chicago for college. There is absolutely nothing to do for a college-aged or young professional except get drunk at some sleazy bar. My sister felt the same way; she relocated to west Colorado.

We will be moving to des moines, ia in march. I work for the rail road and thats where they want me to be. We would like to one day end up near colorado springs, co. However with three children, moving at free will is not that easy.
