Hi!
Thank you in advance for any help/advice you can offer! We're moving to Elizabethtown/Glendale beginning of July. I've loved growing gardens in Idaho and Virginia, so I'd like some info about growing a garden in Kentucky, please!

..is July too late to put anything in the ground? I have sort of given up any hope of a garden this year with the mid-summer move, but a girl's gotta ask! How long is the growing season? What are the normal soil problems (clay?)? Any critters/pests to control (here in Alexandria the squirrels will harvest everything before you have a chance to)? What grows well--and what should I just not even try? Is it fairly easy to grow organically or no? Will plants like rhubarb and strawberries winter-over OK?

I'm hoping to grow veggies and fruits I've grown before--so if you have anything to say about the below plants in Kentucky, I'd really like to hear it!

Previously, I've grown:
thornless blackberries
ever-bearing heritage raspberries
a few varieties of rhubarb
a strawberry patch
a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes and standard hybrids
beans
swiss chard
potatoes
onions
carrots
zucchini
cucumber
musk mellon
garlic
blueberries
lettuce
lots and lots of diff herbs

trees:
apples (granny smith, golden delish, pink lady, fuji, braeburn, Roman, Cameo)
pie cherries
apricots

You can still plant some short term green beans & sweet corn. You can try some tomatoes but be certain they are of correct variety. Late gardens are perfect for turnips too.

Blackberries, Strawberries and Rasberries are all in now. I would say that it is too late for any of them. Not sure about anything else.

This has always been my favorite gardening book for KY. I hope this helps!
