The major reason the Cherokee Triangle association opposed the Willow development was not, primarily, the design itself. It's the suspicious intentions of the developer. The zoning change isn't limited to just the proposed design. Once the zoning is changed, it raises the value of the land exponentially and more or less anything can be built there. Once the zoning is changed, there's nothing to prevent the developer selling the land to another party who might not build something fitting the neighborhood nearly as well. The neighborhood association even asked the developer to sign an agreement guaranteeing that he'd build the proposed tower or have the zoning revert to its original status, but he declined.

If that is true, then it is shady. I do know people who know Kevin Cogan, and apparently he is a good guy who has a strong interest in the community, especially the Highlands, where he and all his family reside.
