We will be starting a project shortly for a large home on property south of 64 in Shelby County. We will be doing some extensive build outs for landscaping, barn, pool, entertainment. Much of this I will be subcontracting in lieu of paying beyond reasonable for materials to be shipped in from out of state. We are fine with good local Kentucky materials, in fact we prefer it.

I've found the labor pool to be excellent both from a quality and experience level as well as end quality. I am looking for sources that can provide stone, rock, mulch, large trees, hard scape materials in stock and volume to a job site. Lots of little businesses but not what we want for a large 11 acre project. Think big is the thought here. Also need a company that can do 3000' feet of wood horse fence.

Thoughts suggestions, are always welcome.

Many people don't realize that all the rock in Memphis has either to come by barge on The River, or trucked in from quarries in Parsons, Tennessee. The dirt in West Tennessee is without rock.

Most of the great landscaping rocks come from Crossville, Tennessee rock yards, and it's called Crab Orchard Stone. That's what you see on television with all the mega swimming pools and their grottos. And it's exported as far as South America. Make the 325 mile run to Crossville and you'll find what you're look for.

You can find tree transplanters in Memphis. One such truck sits in Arlington on Hwy 70, just west of The Parkway.

As far as landscaping goes, 50% of nursery stock comes from McMinnville and Manchester, TN. Many, many shrub raisers can be found on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace in Middle TN and North Alabama. Sod farms are all over the state.
