I moved here from Florida 2 years ago. I lived in Hobe Sound Florida not far from West Palm Beach. We moved here because of my husband's transfer of jobs. Lubbock is full of fantastic people who treat you as part of the family. However, I am originally Texan from the Conroe/Houston area but have been out of Texas almost 8 years before moving back.

You should have no problem finding jobs. LPD is always short and interviewing and testing. Huge change from where you live. Windy most of the year, dry, not much rain, very affordable housing, most of the city is safe, not much traffic vs. S. Florida. The biggest down side is lack of recreational activities, like beaches, boating, professional sports, gambling, etc. It is also a drive to get to those things, so be prepared to put on more miles, but there's almost never a traffic jamb unless its on the loop, during rush hour and there's an accident. And I would also agree with another poster, people are generally nicer and friendlier than most places you go.
