/To celebrate the 10th year of an economic development initiative called Macon Now, the Macon Economic Development Commission and the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce created a scorecard to report its progress.
Macon Now is a private-public economic development initiative developed by the MEDC in 2004. The goal was to expand the tax base by creating more jobs, increase the level of consumer spending at local businesses, diversify the economy and improve the overall quality of life, according to a news release.
The Macon Scorecard, which was unveiled Monday, is a document used to report the progress of the Macon Now initiative to its investors and the community. The document shows that about 10,000 jobs were created or retained during the past 10 years.
Some of the companies that chose to locate or expand in Macon-Bibb County since 2004 include Kohl’s, Geico, Dixon Ticonderoga, Bass Pro Shops, Bombardier, Timco Macon, Aspen Products, Mr. Chips and Kumho Tire USA.
The design of the scorecard was a collaborative effort with the chamber, MEDC and M&R Marketing Group.
