Bibb County voters overwhelmingly approved a proposed education sales tax initiative Tuesday.

The measure passed with about 75 percent of voters saying yes.

The E-SPLOST is projected to provide about $180 million for a wish list of projects that includes a consolidation of Appling Middle and Northeast High schools to a shared campus, construction of an auditorium for each high school, a new elementary school, renovations to existing facilities, new school buses, safety and security improvements throughout the district, a campus police facility, and capital projects for charter schools.

Technology upgrades are at the top of the list. That initiative would involve installing cameras, audio enhancement (a wireless microphone and speakers) and interactive white boards in all Bibb classrooms.

Since 2000, there have been three education sales-tax initiatives that have brought in almost $500 million. That money has helped build more than 20 new schools, as well as fund dozens of renovations, facility improvements and additions.

I was checking an article out about Savannah and Chatham county. Savannah and Chatham county just approved an e-splost on November the 8th of this year. This will be only the second e-splost to get approved in Chatham county. The first one was approved back in 2007. Since 2000 Macon-Bibb has approved three e-splost the one voted on in 2015 with a majority of received yes votes, will be the fourth ever e-splost in Macon-Bibb.

Macon-Bibb current combined sales tax is 7%. The state of Georgia sales tax is 4%. Bibb County sale tax is 3%. Macon sales tax is 0%. This is good with the comparison of other cities and counties in central Georgia. For instance; Houston County combined sales tax is 7%, Baldwin County combined sales tax is 7%, and Laurens County combined sales tax is 8%. The city of Chicago has the highest sales tax in the country at 10.25%. Los Angeles has an sales tax of 9.5%. New York City has a sales tax of 8.75%. Macon-Bibb just voted on an E-SPLOST in 2015 while in the midst of an already ongoing splost that was approved by voters in 2011, and started collecting in 2012. The current splost is suppose to end April 2018. I just want to know how does Macon-Bibb determine where and which splost (e-splost and splost) gets there share of the money, because it is still only one cent?

4 percent is Georgia, 1 percent is Local (permanent), 1 percent is SPLOST (special purpose local--voted on every few years), 1 percent is education (elost-voted on every few years). Total is 7 percent. The pots are separate. SPLOST funds can only be used for SPLOST projects. Same with ELOST. The pseudo-permanent one cent for local is general fund money.

Most of the state is the same. Some are at 8 percent because of the transportation tax they passed and some in metro have sales tax for marta. Here is the chart. https://dor.georgia.gov/documents/sales-tax-rate-chart
