This was definitely a surprise to me. I expected Metro Atlanta to dominate, but I did not expect to see Macon on this list. I guess this rise in rents shows just how desirable Macon's Intown is becoming...

Residential rent rates across Georgia remain among the most affordable in the country, but rents are growing more rapidly than the rest of the country, according to the online rental site Apartmentlist.com.

The 10 fastest-growing Georgia rents, based on highest year-over-year growth, are:

Riverdale, 16.7 percent

Jonesboro, 13.2 percent

Smyrna, 9.4 percent

Marietta, 9 percent

Lawrenceville, 8 percent

College Park, 7.9 percent

Sandy Springs, 7 percent

Norcross, 6.7 percent

Alpharetta, 6.3 percent

Macon, 4.9 percent

As far as rental prices, North Atlanta is Georgia's most expensive city, with a median two-bedroom price tag of $1,570. Rents have increased in North Atlanta by 2.6 percent since December 2014.

Statewide, one-bedroom rents showed a 0.7 percent increase while two-bedroom rents grew by 0.2 percent between November and December 2015. They are now up 6.3 percent and 4.1 percent respectively over last year, with an average two-bedroom price of $750, the report said.

Apartment List said its data was drawn from several hundred thousand monthly listings on its site.

Maybe it has to due with the fact that Macon has gone loco for lofts, all the new apartments are on the upscale side and many older complexes are disappearing.
