Hi,

I am currently living near Chicago and am looking to move. One of the things I am looking for is a let's say "less diverse" area. Any current residents of Madison willing to comment on the type of people who live in the area ie criminals, section 8 etc. I know this is not very pc but I am just being honest. I want to live around good, decent, hard working people like most of us!

Thanks!

You would not be happy in Madison. I suggest that you look elsewhere.

Since you're looking for areas of Madison to avoid when you move, there is already a discussion on the front page that should supply the answers you're looking for: Where is Madison's Danger Zone?

How about you check out that thread and reply here if it doesn't meet your needs?

The board allows posters to seek a place to live amongst others like themselves. Most Madisonians don't consider openly seeking birds of a feather with whom to flock together to be a worthy goal, which is likely to make this a controversial topic.

When I lived in Madison (left 5 years ago), it was common for people to move from Chicago and Milwaukee due to the ease of getting public assistance compared to other places (especially Chicago). The police were also much easier on the homeless population and allowed panhandling. I don't know if this is still the case, nor did I find any of this a huge problem - but if this is your issue, Madison isn't for you, definitely.

This should be a fun thread...

I might suggest trying Strongbadia. Population: Tire

In all seriousness... if you want some place that has a stronger sense of social order for lack of a better term, then Madison will fit your needs considerably better than Chicago. If anything the largest source of social disorder is the student body doing their pub crawls on any given weekend evening. You'll have to work a lot harder to get out of your comfort zone in Madison, but it's still possible.
