Looking for any advice regarding how drivers of city buses remember their routes? Seems like it would be really hard for someone new to learn all the routes?

I have been on the bus while a new driver was getting trained and have also been on the bus when observably new workers were the driver.

They have maps with their routes highlighted on them that they will hold and look at while driving until they learn the route. There is also some system on the dashboard that will alert the driver if they are X minutes behind the next scheduled stop, which should help new drivers make sure they are on time. But I have noticed that Metro puts the same drivers on the same routes for most of the days of the week. And that driver will then take a specific route during their entire shift. So after about a week or less, I think it would be easy to learn the route assuming you have the same one each day.

Not a previous or current bus driver, just my observations as a rider.

Trust me..........If a new driver goes " off route " the passengers will tell him real quick.
