Hi folks. I'm thinking of purchasing some land in Kokadjo. I've been vacationing in the Moosehead region for years, and have always wanted to buy a piece of land up there. I've had my eye on one particular lot for some time now. I might make the move full time one day. I was just curious if anyone here who lives in the area could answer a few questions.

How are the roads maintained in the winter? I understand that only a handful of people live in Kokadjo year round...

How is the Greenville school system?

How is the fishing on First Roach Pond?

Thanks all.

OK, I let it go 24 hours and nobody jumped in. I used to run sled dogs with the guy who owns the Kokadjo Store. The road to Kokadjo is plowed in winter. It is often plowed beyond there, but it depends on whether they need to keep it open for logging trucks.

"How is the Greenville school system?"

Small and the kids do well, most going on to college.

"How is the fishing on First Roach Pond?"

Excellent. Lake trout grow large there and the brook trout fishing is good too. Roach River is outstanding trout fishing.

A lot of folks purchased land up there and are now trying to sell due to the economy. So there should be some real bargains.

Well I'm glad u decided to jump in. Thanks for the info. I absolutely love the Moosehead area, and God willing, I'll make the move someday. The Kokadjo lot is very reasonable...surprisingly so....but I wanted to make sure it would be something I could access with ease year round. Good to know the roads are maintained.

Never fished First Roach Pond...I'll have to give it a try.

Thanks.

Greenville is the economic hub for the region. Kokadjo sign used to read 'population 3.' It now reads 'population, not many.' Schools are as good as anywhere.

The road is maintained to Kokadjo proper, all winter. Depending on where your lot is, you might get in and out if you are creative enough.

The Roaches hold a lot of nice fish as do just about all beaver bogs.

I love the Moosehead Lake region. I rented a cabin on Moosehead Lake last summer in Rockwood and took a ride up to Kokadjo while I was there. It was beautiful. I didn't fish First Roach Pond, but did plenty of fishing on Moosehead. (Caught my first, and hopefully my last, white sucker fish. Took me almost 5 minutes to get the hook out of its mouth. Not the prettiest fish in the pond.) I have heard that the fishing on First Roach Pond is great...I'll have to try it out next time I'm up.

The whole region is beautiful...best of luck to you!
