Not much doubt that the state, along the coast at least, has seen a generally milder climate since the early 1980s. The spread of deer ticks/Lyme disease is one pretty good indicator. When I was a youngster in the 1950s and 1960s, my father wouldn't even think of going deer hunting until there was snow on the ground, and that was reliably in early-mid-November back then. When we moved here to the midcoast in the early 1980s, the first frost was always in mid to late September, according to both our experience and the official guides. These days we usually don't see even a light frost until early October, and black frosts have come as late as Halloween.

It has been a cool May for sure. May has always been my favorite month but this year it's been somewhat of a disappointment, not alot of rain but seems more like Aprils I used to experience when in MA. I do love the longer mild fall weather of the past few years.

Definitely warming. I talk to the seniors in our area (Midcoast), and they remember when they were kids that nearly every year they could go ice skating on the ponds after Thanksgiving dinner. These days, you're lucky if you get a light flurry of snow by Thanksgiving.

If the scientists are correct, Maine is going to feel a lot more like Maryland by the end of this century. Not exactly alligator country, but far from the Maine we know and love. I may have to move to northern Ontario to find a decent climate.

There is a lot of way climates are looked at. I was always in the group that thought "we got way more snow when I was a kid" until I was challenged by a neighbor to look into it... from what I saw snow falls amt's have fluctuated pretty much the same now as they did when I was born. Same goes for temp's. mean temps, high and low temps, all of it might mean something different. Not much of a green thumb myself but I am pretty sure hardiness zones look at low temps.. So you can have a two months of sub zero temps but if you don't reach your highest low (does that make sense ) for 3 years straight I guess your climate is getting warmer.

Saw a special on discovery some years ago about the mini ice age.. maybe we are in the middle of a mini warm age
