We are going to be new to Maine and looking to relocate to the area and found a nice home in readfield.

Being new, is readfield nice? Is there a town? Elementary school? Etc

My wife is out there now, but looking for some opinions..

Thx

Readfield is a nice town near Augusta and it has lots of orchards. There is a small town center, but it is close enough to Augusta and Waterville that most shopping happens there. There is an expensive private school in town, but there is little interaction between townies and the school. This is not elitism or discrimination; just two different worlds that are very far apart. The Readfield public schools are K to 5. Then the students go to nearby Maranacook middle and high schools. The public schools are quite good and Readfield's crime rate is very low.

Starting in the 50's, my family would vacation on Maranacook Lake, towards the north end of the lake, in Readfield. We'd be able to walk - via dirt road and railroad tracks, to Readfield Depot. Used to be a general store there that sold penny candy.

The Readfield Historical Society seems to be an active organization, and they have a Facebook page that may serve as an additional resource for you.

I've always thought that Readfield was a nice town.

Every year about now, a plane from Jamaica lands at the Augusta Airport. The passengers are apple pickers. They work hard from sunrise to sunset. When the harvest is over, they get on the same plane and go home. What an idea!

"stores along the coast this summer had Jamaicans and polish and Russian workers in mdi on work visas"

And the governor's wife, waiting tables at a restaurant. Maine's governor has the lowest pay for any governor in our nation. Ann wanted to buy a Toyota Rav 4 so she waited tables for the summer.
