I’m thinking of buying a very small cabin in the woods....I live alone with 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks...the cabin is on 19 acres in densely wooded area...what about ticks in the spring/ summer.

What part of Maine are you considering? Some areas are worse than others. We have tiny deer ticks up to the large winter (moose) ticks. They're heaviest in late spring when they quest and again in the fall.

I have yet to see any in Island Falls.
Maybe the black fly ate them all.

Ticks are heavy in southern and coastal Maine. Including Lyme Disease.

Hancock county has plenty of all kinds. My dog has Lyme disease. He’s doing fine. I’ve been bitten by deer ticks. No Lyme disease for me.

I've seen plenty of ticks throughout New England. The farthest north that I have seen them in Maine is Allagash. That was several years ago so I'm sure they are farther north now.

We also had a light winter here so they are already out in some parts of the state.

I've never gotten more ticks on myself than when working in the woods in western Maine (Bethel/Gilead vicinity). In far northern Maine I never saw any deer ticks though that doesn't mean they aren't around.

Deer ticks are almost microscopic until they drill in and suck your blood. You should check your body for ticks after being outside. I got one on me and i wasn't in the woods. Have someone check areas that you can't get a good look at.Take the tick off correctly, put in zip lock bag and send it for testing to see what diseases it is carrying. If you get the red bullseye around the tick bite area, you need to see a doctor immediately (antibiotic). You could be infected and not have a red bullseye. When you get the test results back from having the tick tested, you should find out if further action is needed.... antibiotic etc. When in doubt about what to do or if you have questions or concerns, see a doctor. Too many people are getting lyme disease.

You have two dogs. You can have them vaccinated against lyme disease. https://www.embracepetinsurance.com/...e-vaccine-dogs
