I'm still learning my way around rural living, and have a question for those with drilled wells. We've got a 180-foot-deep drilled well, great pressure, lovely water.
What I'm wondering is, how often should we be testing the water? Or rather, how often do those of you with wells test YOUR water, since I'm sure the "official" recommendation is the usual scared-of-everything recommendation.
Thanks!
Thanks, Submariner and American Girl - that's been my inclination as well. We had it tested when we purchased 18 months ago and all was good, and so unless I have reason to suspect a problem I'm going to let it be. It's reassuring to hear from others with wells.
I would say that the majority of wells that I have tested when working with a buyer to purchase a new home have problems that the sellers either fix or credit before the purchase is completed. Once a filtration system is in place, the companies have maintenance contracts just like the fuel companies and that equipment should be serviced annually, which includes testing. Too many homeowners set it and forget it and only learn that they have been ingesting harmful elements when they sell and get the buyer's test results.
