well, Waterville really isn't very pretty. Ummm, stuff to do...what kind of things do you like to do? I live in Vassalboro, about 15 minutes from Waterville. I could do better answering more specific questions. Are you thinking of moving there from another state? Do you already have a job lined up? I just think there are nicer places with better job opportunities elsewhere in the state.

Default well

I am not very sure it would be Waterville definatly but somewhere in that area. I am on a housing list in which something has come available. I do know someone who lives there and have visted last summer but not enough to form an opinion. I want to be in a safe quiet place and I want to make sure if I accept the apt that I will be happy. Now you said you felt there where better places? Can you explain? I thought some parts where nice and others where run down, not sure of the crime? and it seems like a city like place to live.
If waterville is not something I am looking for then what surrounding areas would you suggest?

Thanks

Until 2 years ago, I lived in Waterville pretty much my entire life. Waterville is the home of Colby College which offers some very nice cultural opportunities. There is a movement toward revitalizing the downtown but it will be a slow and costly process. I hope they are successful because WTVL used to have a nice little downtown when I was a kid.

Lots of grocery stores, banks and restaurants in the town.

There is a nice variety of housing available in all price ranges. The job market is pretty small but many people commute to Augusta every day.

Watervilles best feature is its central location to so many other parts of the State and the hundreds of things to do State-wide. The Belgrade Lakes are just 10-15 minutes away. Skiing less than 1 hour away. You can be down to Belfast and the coast in 1 hour or so; it's a couple of hours to Bar Harbor.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

Oops, we were posting at the same time.

The south end of the city is not desirable. There is where most of the "low life" types are located and the police spend a great deal of time. There are some nice apartments in the older neighborhoods off of Upper Main Street. There are also some nice places directly across the bridge in Winslow. Like any town, there are good and bad. If you want to DM me with specific street names, I can be of more assistance.

Everything is relative and where you are coming from is a big part of the answer too. Although unlikely, you could be posting from the big island in Hawaii.

Many folks up here are from away and may be able to draw a better conclusion if we know what your thinking of leaving.

There was an Aussie type of Crocodile Dundee themed bar in downtown Waterville that used to serve fried alligator strips. Have you ever heard of it?

I meant if I had the entire State of Maine to choose from Waterville would not necessarily be my first choice. But, if you have housing being set up, I think it's an okay area. There is a nice downtown area. There is a bit of nightlife. I'm not familiar with all of the areas within Waterville, so I really can't give specific advice about where there is more/less crime, but like all places there are nicer neighborhoods and not so nice neighborhoods. If you move to the surrounding areas they have lower crime. Good luck!

It was on the Concourse and owned by an aquaintance of mine. He owned several businesses but a few years ago he closed all of them and retired (again) for health reasons.
