I've been reading in some old online new articles that there was not too long ago an active train running from Portland to Bethel (perhaps on the way to Montreal?). Does this service still run?
Is there any passenger rail service to Bethel from more southern parts?

I checked Amtrac to see if the one to Montreal stopped there. Nope. Only thing for Miane is Portland to Boston North Station. Nothing near Bethel. Not even the Montreal train.
Velvet Underground, eh? For some reason that made me think of Ultimate Spinach. Remember them? Ever even heard of them? Never mind!
Anyway, the title to this thread really caught my eye. A train from Portland to Bethel with stops in between would be great! But I don't think there are even buses that go that route unless they're chartered. Maybe a bus from Portland to Lewiston but I THINK that's about it. If I'm wrong about that, I would love to be corrected. A train would be so nice though.
We haven't had passenger rail service through this part of the state for quite some time. Of course when gas prices exceeded $4/gallon, there was talk of it.
Now with the price per gallon tanking,() no one is very enthusiastic about the project.

I rode this a couple of times back in the 90's and it was a lot of fun. Napped on the way back. There was talk about starting it up again but now that gas has dropped so much its interest has dropped off.
