There's no way of finding out how many plows re used for snow removal in Maine. Besides Maine DOT plows, each town and city has its own fleet of plows to keep local roads open. Figure hundreds at least, perhaps even more than a thousand.

I know a lot of towns and cities have their own fleet. I'm sure someone out there knows or has some idea ... they just may not read this.

Many of the smaller towns have no highway department. Larger towns would do well to contract out most of their road maintenance. The guys who drive cement mixers in the summer can plow snow in the winter.
