Hello!!!

Just love this site! So full of great information and wonderful people.
Any how I was pondering the idea of a composting toilet for our place we are in the process of building. What can we do with the grey water??? that's legal. That would pass inspection its in Old town next to Pushaw lake, also
enviroment friendly. Thanks a million!

I have been told [by our septic design dude] that for a residence first you need an approved septic system. Then you can have and use an outhouse or composting toilet if you wish.

Last time I was at the Common Ground Fair the place we always stayed at put in compost toilets in all their cabins. They took some getting used to but after you do your business you spin the shaving and at some point in time they remove/replace the shavings. No grey water to deal with.

They provided info about them but I didn't read it other then the directions. Perhaps Forest knows the technical info.

Yep, Forest is right. You still need a septic design, even for a composting toilet rig. Not so much for the john, but for the grey water. You'd need a design done even for an outhouse. It's the law.

Hi Luckyangel,
If you are already building a place you are suppose to have a plan for your gray water otherwise you are not legal. You may have to have a holding tank and this usually deed restricts the property to seasonal use. Make sure you have a septic design and permits before assuming that all is good.
