Looks like we are heading to Ft. Meade. Can anyone tell me what area is close by. Top priority is good schools, low crime, short & easy commute, nice neighborhood. Looks like its close to DC is there a lot of traffic around the Ft. Meade area?

Try Columbia, Ellicott City or Elkridge. They are pretty much all of the things on your list. Only down side - leaving Ft. Meade in the evening, the traffic backs up since everyone else at Ft. Meade lives out there too. You can also try Severna Park.

My father works at Ft. Meade and we have lived in Columbia, MD for years. I also did an internship at Ft Meade. It's only about a 20 min commute. Howard County has very good schools.

I had a client relocate from another state a couple of months ago and was working at Ft. Meade. He settled on Howard County, specifically the Elkridge area because of the close proximity to work and he liked the schools, amenities, etc. that Howard County provided for him and his family. I have also had clients who work at Ft. Meade who have settled in the Odenton area and like it very much as well.

You might also want to check out Sykesville (Carroll County) a little farther out, but convenient to 32. Lower crime, lower taxes, lower housing prices, but still some of the best schools in the state. It's a popular Ft. Meade commuter location.
