Hi, my Husband is in the military and we were stationed in Germany. We move back to the States tomorrow and we will be stationed in NC / Ft Bragg. We plan on buying a car from Baltimore and only have 2 days . Question what do we need for a temporary registration / license plates My Husband is a California Resident and i`m NY. We don't have much time and i hope everything goes smooth. Oh and we probably buy the car from a private Seller. Thanks in advance

Let me google that for you:
Temporary Registration

Buying a used car in MD is smart because the inspection process is rather stringent.
Just be **certain** that the seller has had it inspected.

With insurance, inspection title and bill of sale in hand... go to an MVA office.
Most dealers can do it all for you. In a real hurry? Carmax

I can say this with all confidence since I've lived in both NC and MD, and gone through this repeatedly. In order to register the vehicle in either state you will need to prove residency. Even military personnel must prove they live in that state. Maryland will not issue a temp tag to someone that is stationed in or lives in North Carolina.

Your best bet is to get a NC temp tag, drive to MD and pick the car up and bring it back.

It doesn't help you now, but Pennsylvania will issue a temp transport tag without proof of residence.
