I'd love to visit the DE/MD beaches for a week after Labor Day. As I see it the pros are that the water would still be nice and warm, the crowds would be gone, and the rental prices would go down considerably. I don't know, however, if things start to shut down after Labor Day making entertainment and food more scarce than during the summer.

Also, can you recommend a beach that would be good to go to with a toddler? Nothing too upscale (like Lewes); we tend to like casual stuff. Thanks for your help.

Good idea to go just after Labor Day. Most stuff will be running fine until into October, many more are all year, it's a lot different now than it was back in the 1950's and 60's. Some amusements may only open on weekends. A few online rate checks will tell you when the rates go down.

You have chosen a wonderful time to go to the beach. I lived in Ocean City area for 28 years and the only months we ever dreaded were the end of June through the Middle of September.

The water stays warm through October, less bugs, less crowds and most places stay open at least on the weekends. If you take yourself off the main boardwalk areas you will find great restaurants and shops in both OC, Fenwick, Bethany and Rohobeth which are where the locals goes year round.
