We're moving to Lexington with a 5-y.o. who will be starting kindergarten and is advanced in reading, math, and science (however, we don't want to skip grades). We know the reputation of Lexington schools and their MCAS scores but understand that test scores are only part of the picture (especially in kindergarten) and would like to select a school and rent nearby.

While I cannot comment on schools, you should make sure rentals are even an option before you get your heart set on anything. Lexington is mostly SFRs.
