First trip to the Cape and Boston. Where would you advise staying in the Cape (mid with a trip to Nantucket island or Provincetown?) if traveling solo and if have only 2 days. Flying into Boston in the early evening on Mon. and then plan to drive to the Cape. Will have to drive back to Boston on Wed. How about staying in and around Hyannis (i.e Centerville) and then going to Nantucket for a quick trip.

Any thoughts and recommendations? Thank you.

Depends on what you are looking for.

In a nutshell

P-town and the outer Cape in general is for fun, laid back people and Nantucket for the beautiful people.

On Nantucket people want to be seen, down Cape, they want to blend into the scene or in certain establishments make a scene.

What they have in common is both places offer breathtaking vistas and businesses are happy to have you come spend your $.

That having been said, mid week in June - depending on when in June will dictate how big the crowds are and if you need reservations of if you can wing it and see what the weather etc brings.

You have a limited time and much to see. You can get to Nantucket via ferry from Hyannis but it takes 3.5 hours if I remember correctly and bringing your car in season is several hundred dollars. Nantucket is a beautiful island and town if you go be sure to check out the whaling museum.
Don't forget Marthas Vineyard which is a shorter ferry trip of about 35 minutes from the World Famous Woods Hole in Falmouth. Taking or renting a car is also expensive there. Both islands have rentals and both islands also feature public buses.
Given the time you have you might be better off visiting Provincetown and enjoying the sights along the way up to it. You could stay in Hyannis or along rt28 in Yarmouth where there are plenty of hotels/ motels.
You could drive a loop, rt 28 through Chatham to the rotary in Orleans, rt 6 up to Ptown and be sure to stop at the national seashore on the way, have lunch and people watch in ptown then pick up rt6a on the way back.
So much to do and so little time...
