So I have been considering tearing down my current home and building a new house.I am hoping that someone can share their experiences and or recommend some contractors in the area. With that said here are some of my questions.
The current house sits on a slab like all the homes in the surrounding area.
-What service can I use to investigate if there is granite under ground.Or to verify that it would be possible to make a foundation(basement)?
What are the current cost per sq feet in this area at the moment.
How much can I expect to pay for an approx.30x30 foundation?
Is Insulated concrete better?
How much can I expect framing cost to be for a 30x30 two story colonial?

Any information would be appreciated.

I don't really know any of the answers but one place that might be helpful is your town engineering / building dept, they can probably answer the first question and if you get chatting may have some advice on the others

I also heard that when rebuilding, it is better to leave at least small part of the old house, say one wall, and build to it - if it is possible and makes sense engineering wise. that way it is a renovation of previous structure, rather than new construction all together (where you don't leave any part), and apparently your property taxes will be quite different when all is done. Worth looking into.
