Someone who is willing to negotiate on the title insurance price? We have an upcoming closing, and the attorney's fee for title insurance seems very high. I understand that it's largely commission for him. Anyone know a real estate attorney who is willing to do a closing and provide title insurance economically?

Usually your lender picks the closing attorney for you. I'm not sure you can shop around.

If you use the same attorney as the lender you can usually save a little money.

Most lenders actually let you pick the closing attorney these days. There are some small local banks that I've worked with that have a "closing attorney list" but the majority of lenders seem to be OK with you choosing.

Interesting. When I bought my house in 2012 my lender basically told me who would be doing my closing and when. I was pretty indifferent and didn't have a compelling reason to look for someone else.

Be careful sometimes you get what you pay for and especially with a home closing you want it to go smoothly.

I know someone who questioned the fee at the closing table and the attorney dropped it considerably. I wouldn't suggest waiting until that point in the deal but why not ask up front. Ask nicely if they have a "good guy discount" of course it helps to actually be a "good guy"... You never know if you don't ask.

I agree. When making a purchase of such magnitude, I don't focus so much on what people are charging me but rather what quality of service they provide. I'm happy to pay a little extra to make sure things go smoothly and problems don't occur either during the transaction or after.
