The company I worked for went under, so I've been collecting unemployment for about two months now. The process has been pretty frustrating. Initially, my claim was on hold until my identity could be verified, which delayed my payment for the first 3 weeks. After it was verified, a check was to be issued for those 3 weeks. In the meantime, I was able to claim weekly, and did receive payments on time through direct deposit. However, the first check never came (my boyfriend, who lives with me and was in the same situation, because we both worked for the same company, received his check without any issues). After speaking with UI on the phone, they said that the check was lost; I filed a lost check form immediately, per UI's instructions, and have yet to receive anything (it's been 3 weeks).

In the meantime, a bunch of life stuff happened and, although I was still looking for work, I was unable to sit down and request benefits for a few weeks. I finally dud today, add saw that my claim was closed, so I went through the process of reopening it. It's now reopened; however, I don't see the last few weeks available for requesting benefits. The only available week is this current week.

Did I screw myself over by neglecting to request benefits for the last few weeks?

Unemployment insurance they come up with random things to either delay your benefits or deny you .. it’s one of those things where your guaranteed benefits if you were laid off .. but other than that it’s mostly just depending on luck at that point .. think about it , some people apply and get it right away , while others are put through a bunch of crap.. at this point I would just recommend you countinue to look for a job , in the meantime you can maybe try Uber eats or lyft.. good luck
