I recall talking with a colleague at a former employer who was looking at putting such a pool into her house in VT. That's a very different idea, but also cool, focused on exercise, doesn't require a lot of space, allowing it to be easily incorporated into a house of ordinary size if desired, so you could get your workout year round in there. One brand of those is SwimEx - uses a paddlewheel at the one end that produces a current that's nearly the full width of the pool.

I think that's called an Endless Pool or some such. I remember seeing that they cost about $25k to install.

While I like pools, it is definitely not a must have. i think many feel that way around here so pools don't really add much value. Now, if you lived in Texas then it would be a different story.
