Has anyone had experience with obtaining new plates, and registering a new vehicle during DMV closures. Website is still showing the old info.

MA RMV is open, you need to make an appointment. If you are purchasing the new vehicle from a dealer, they will take care of it for you.

Reach out to your insurance agent. They may be able to handle it as well.

I don't know if they're open and obviously you have to have a membership but AAA has a lot of DMV functions that they can perform at their offices.

The rule is that it needs to be your primary vehicle that you use to get to work or to medical things. You can do it by appointment. Second cars, motorcycles, trailers, etc have to wait.

This is indeed a second car. Not sure if you mean AAA only makes appointments for primary vehicles, or the registry itself. I made an appointment at the haymarket location. Hoping i dont waste my time going there to find out they cant do it

I meant the Registry. I need to register a boat trailer. I read their instructions carefully. I have to wait. Appointment only. I think it's reasonable for them to try to minimize the traffic by keeping it to essential business. I suppose you can say it's your primary car that you will be using to get to work and to your medical appointments.

I have all my insurance paid and spoke to an agent who said that at the appointment I should be able to get plates. I didn't read anywhere that it said appointments made must be for primary vehicle. There were a ton of options for what kind of appointment to select, So register previously titled vehicle fit the bill. I will let you know how it goes.

Got plates Wednesday. After the initial chaos of grouping outside to allocate who went where, it was a very smooth process. I hope this appointment situation continues this way after this virus. makes way more sense.
