Hello,
My neighbor is parking his business equipment on the street. Box truck, trailer (with debris from jobs he does) and a pickup truck. We live on a side street that is also used by people to cut over to the highway. They are always speeding down the street and the equipment blocks the view of people walking down the street. My wife doesn’t want me to approach them because she thinks they’re going to tell me to f-off. I’ve read the bylaws and there is laws against parking in a residential area. How would you approach this ?? My wife is afraid that if he tells me to screw the situation is going to escalate. Has anyone had a similar experience?? I’m beyond frustrated!! Thanks

You should be pleased to know that you married a woman smarter than you are.

If he parks on your property you have a legitimate beef but you have no standing to tell him he can't park on the public road just because you don't like it. Unless you're his Dad or you're the boss over the rest of the world or something.

Time for you to spend some money. Put up a fence so you don't have to see his trucks, which I agree are probably unsightly. Plant some fast growing hedges. Or find a custom stained glass shop and have some really nice stained glass windowsput in on that side. Maybe move to a better neighborhood. I live out in the boonies on a large acreage. Boxing lessons?

I'm sympathetic that you don't want to look out on an eyesore but it's your problem to solve, not his. Unless you've had previous beefs with him that you're not saying, you have to assume he's not intentionally trying to annoy you. He's just being "him" and doing what he does. You're allowing the situation to get to you, so you have some personal work to do to disengage from being annoyed by him and letting it get to you.

Many towns don't allow overnight street parking, ask the police.

Overnight parking of commercial vehicles on a public street is against the law in many communities. They must be parked off street on private property.

So if the neighbor is parking commercial vehicles on a public street, he is breaking the law. From my experience in trying to park commercial vehicles on a street overnight, the police do actively try to enforce it when they are aware of a situation.

What is there to be frustrated about when you haven't even reported it yet? You can get frustrated if you report it and nothing is done. Then come back and complain.
