Hi all,

We're planning to replace our oil tank (275 gallon steel Granby from 1961). We're trying to decide between getting a Roth or a Granby tank, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either. The Roth was quoted at $2700 and the Granby at $2350. Roth comes with a 30-year, $2 million warranty, and is double-walled. Is it worth the extra $350?

Verses Granby single or double wall? They sell both. If Granby's double wall you're splitting hairs. Regardless of the brand, it's worth the slight premium to go with a double wall lined tank. Blow molded Polyethylene fuel tanks are generally rated for 15-20 years, but stored indoors with zero UV degradation should extend the life well past that.

I like the Roth tanks as they're more or less floor mounted to whatever the Z height is. It's means you can squeeze a 400g tank in the place of a traditional 275g elevated single wall tank. I'm planning to go this route in the near future as I have two 275g tanks and would like to reduce the foot print claim without losing too much capacity.

As already stated, if you're talking about a double walled Roth vs. a single walled Granby then it's a no brainer . . . go with the Roth. If we're talking about double walled vs. double walled then the only significant difference is Roth's tanks tend to be more vertical vs. the Granby tanks which tend to be more horizontal. So, IMO the Roth tanks are more space efficient given you have the ceiling height to accommodate the Roth.
