Fully agree--have frequented the Trader Joe's there, and let's not forget about the dining options! Lovebird Donuts in Kittery is almost worth the drive in itself!

I think you can find a nice house for this price in Ashland or Franklin. Pretty good towns and schools.

Portsmouth is definitely considered upscale and very desirable with the average person in NH and even MA most likely priced out. I’ve worked for two well-known companies in the seacoast area and most of the NH-based executives and bigwigs live in either Portsmouth or Rye. There definitely isn’t anything crappy about it at all.

There’s also a Coach bus that goes to Boston with stops in Georgetown, Topsfield, and Boxford. I used to take it when I lived in Georgetown and it was a great option. Comfortable ride and with such minimal stops along the route, it didn’t feel like the bus was constantly stopping to pick people up.

Oh shoot. I just clicked the link above and it says service is currently suspended. I wonder if it has to do with the orange line closure?

Another town that fits your criteria would be Lynnfield. There’s a Logan Express in Peabody, which is right next to Lynnfield. Boxford, Topsfield, Middleton, Georgetown, Hamilton, and Wenham all have excellent school systems and aren't too far from the Peabody Logan Express either.

I'd look at the towns around the Logan Express bus at Framingham. Maybe Ashland.

Portsmouth school district is in line with places like Sutton or Danvers according to NYT analysis.

Nothing to write home about by MA standard but really good by NH standard. Considerably better than the US average.
