I'm planning to go to Cape Cod next week.

But, I'm worried about the eastern equine virus, especially because it was found in at least one mosquito in eastern Massachusetts.

Thus, I'm coating myself with repellent!

If you enjoy the beaches
the dunes you do need to drive to the tip PTown. antiques many.

I do hope you have a great visit. Many enjoy the Christmas tree shops!
I do not think you do need to worry about a virus, but at night just do
wear long pants etc. Have a real nice time!

Just bring insect repellent and as the above poster mentioned wear long pants/sleeves when out at night, you should be fine on the Cape, the closest places the viruses have been found to the Cape I believe are Carver (EEE) and Plymouth (West Nile). You'll have fun!!!!

The ocean breezes tend to keep the mosquitos down, they like it still. So if you're near the beach, you're usually ok. Once you get a little inland and near fresh water it gets a little rougher.

And Maggie: where are the good antique places? I've never been impressed with the amount of antiques to be found but I've never really looked that hard. Which of the flea markets is more known for antiques & collectibles? Was underwhelmed by Wellfleet, and havent been to Dennis. Are there others?

Default Dont Worry!

Hi,
The virus never makes it past the bridges! You are most likley to get sick from wearing too much repelent rather than the virus. I have been going to Cape Cod all my life and never caught it. So DONT WORRY!!
But beware! there ARE greenheads in the cape so carry a bugspray with you. it also gets buggy on the beaches at night.
Have fun on the cape!!

I am not into antiques, one summer on vacation, I did go to an auction Eldredge and Bourne, it was ok, It was a rain day, and somewhat fun! My
speed is sea shells! However, I lived on Cape Cod! The glass factory is great to see! I did buy an old teddy bear! Sandwich, where, people who were into that did go! I guess, it is the auctions where they really are!

The antique shops are mainly located along route 6A, from Sandwich through P'town. Also Chatham.

The greenhead flies being mentioned are here from the full moon in July to the full moon in August. They are vicious at the beach, so bring your bug spray for certain.

If there's an ocean breeze you generally will have a bug free night. If there's not any wind and you're hanging around outside, you might want to apply your bug spray to your jacket, etc, or get one of those new Off Click and Go things... and if you find one of those, please tell me where you found them as I'd like a couple!!

Coastal is correct. The meandering route 6A is a good bet. Also, route 28A through North and West Falmouth is a lovely ride with antiques.
My friend from VA Beach and her mother and two kids just left a few minutes ago, headed home. They have family/friends in NH, ME and Brewster. She only spend two days here but we crammed a lot in from Bourne to PTown. She said she now understands how she could spend a week (or two) on Cape Cod.
It's truly nice to watch someone fall in love with the place you live. And fall in love, she did!
Have fun on your trip!
