Hi every one, my husband and I are planning a one-week stay in cape code in mid August. We have a toddler son, who will be close to 3 by then. My husband and I are sightseeing people but we would like to find places suitable for little kids. I would also like to know, in general, which towns have beaches with warmer water? Thanks.

Brewster is a nice place to bring young children. The water is warmer, being on the bay side, and free of big waves/undertow. There's also fun things for little ones, like the outdoor natural history museum to see all kinds of sea critters, and on rainy days, there's the Brewster Bookstore, which sometimes has events for children, & an excellent library. You can also stop by the Strawberry Patch store in Brewster and Snow's Hardware in Orleans to show your son the trains. You can also rent bikes as well as the little kid bike carriers at a few shops along Underpass Road in Brewster, and ride along the bike trail, which also goes past a pretty pond where you can stop and take a dip.

Have fun! :-)

Here's a great website for beaches.

Cape Cod Beaches

The beaches along Nantucket Sound are the warmest. The tradeoff is you often get rougher surf at the warmer beaches.

I think Mayflower Beach in Dennis one of the best with young kids. While the water is cold, it is a huge expanse and at low tide, the water stays shallow for hundreds of feet. There is a great concession stand for all your needs. Coming in August, the water will be as warm as it gets. It's a great time to visit.

Def. stay on the bay side. Water is much warmer and no waves for little one. We went to Wellfleet for two years and I adore swimming in rough ocean surf, but it was way too butt-freezing cold for me to even stick my toe in. But our house on the bay offered fantastic warm swimming.

There are also some really great freshwater ponds in Wellfleet that are FANTASTIC for swimming.
