I have a motorcycle and household goods to ship from LA to Maui. Don't need much room since there is virtually no furniture just books, clothes, and albums plus 50 years of my life in a handful of boxes.

Plan B is to get a container with a friend of mine to ship his car and my things. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Is your friend shipping an unusually valuable car? People rarely ship cars that way unless they have an expensive car or a rare collectible, because they wind up paying for both the container AND the vehicle shipping tariff. In other words, if the container costs, say, $4,500 (made up figure) and the car shipping charge is $1,100 (current rate), then shipping a car inside a container will cost $5,600.

The cost to ship a motorcycle individually is $560 (current). If you add it to the car in the container you *might* get lucky and they allow it at no additional cost, but you definitely have to declare it on the manifest, and you will possibly need to get a second copy of the Bill of Lading to show when you register at the DMV. But shipping the car and the motorcycle individually will only cost $1,660.

For Plan B I suggest you pack everything well in boxes, palletize those, wrap the pallet well in shrink wrap and ship it via a freight forwarder, and ship the motorcycle via Pasha or Matson.

Not to mention, it's a real challenge to pack things inside a container with a car in it so they don't move around in transit and damage the car.

Pasha drives cars on to its custom built vehicle ship, where they are parked and secured inside, protected from the elements. Matson essentially does the same with modified ships that have what looks like a parking garage attached on the back. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. They'll handle everything.
