Seems that with the dwindling landfill capacity on Maui, there would be a greater effort on recycling and making it easier to do so.

Many if not most on the island would recycle more if it were more convenient to do so vs separating recyclables at home then having to haul it to recycling centers.

Maui Meadows already has it. No additional fee. They provide green cans for green waste and blue one for paper, bottle, and cans. It just hasnt arrived in other areas yet.

Maui Meadows and I believe a few other routes have 3 can (1 trash, 1 recycling, 1 yard waste). When I worked at the County, I digitized all the county pickup routes, did the analysis to estimate number of residences served, and made the maps for initiative! I don't know why they didn't roll it out everywhere. But devoting a whole trash day to yard clippings seems like a waste

I think we were a trial route. The route had been active for about 2 years now? It was early 2013 or 2012.

At our condo in Kihei, we have a plastics/glass/aluminum recycle bin next to the dumpsters, but we have to haul paper to the recycle center.

At our home in San Francisco we have bins for garbage, recycle (glass, paper, cans and plastic all go in the same bin, then they separate it) and compost. It's pretty awesome and makes you feel a little better about all the refuse you create.
