I'm looking for a car, and I've settled on the Mazda 6. Right now I've got a 2010 Honda accord, but that'll soon end up as my mothers, and I'll get something else.

I like the Accord, but I don't LOVE it to the point that I won't consider something else.

How are Mazda 6's? They are the only car in my price range (16K) that I'm potentially interested in. For whatever reason I'm concerned they may suffer from the same transmission issues as with the ford fusion.

I can't say anything about reliability but I can say that this is my least favorite Mazda 6. I liked the generation right before it and the new 2014 is simply gorgeous but the one you're looking at never did a thing for me. I'd stick with the Accord or look at the current gen Optima/Sonata.

You better stick with the Accord, or you'll regret it for a long time. Yeah it's not a dream car. Please keep the Accord!

The accord is leaving. If anything I'll get a trim level lower replacement accord.

Since the Mazda 6 and Fusion share alot of the same underpinnings have you checked out the late model 2010-2012 Fusion Sport?

I was concerned about potential tranny issues with the Fusion. What did they call it? Flaring.

I believe it was a ECM issue on the early 06-09 versions I think they fixed it on the later Mid-Model Refresh and updated 2010-2012 versions

There are plenty of YouTube videos showing the '10-'12 models flaring, even after software updates.
