Mazda Is Gunning for Lexus and a Move Into the Luxury Car Market -March 2, 2022

My neighbor (age 75) keeps fixing up his old 6 cylinder Volvo because he's always bought volvos but he doesn't want one of those ***** 4 cylinder new Volvos. Look at the specs on a Volvo ***** hybrid:
Volvo XC90 T8 eAWD (over $70k)
Horsepower 455 (Combined) hp
Torque 523 (Combined) lb-ft
Fuel Type Gasoline/Electric

It's not just men. A female friend who is a fan of old BMWs recently said to me you can't go lower than a 6 cylinder. I didn't want to tell her that even BMW mostly sells turbocharged 4 cylinders.

Subaru made the decision to axe all of their 6 cylinder vehicles after 2019, and sales of the turbocharged 4 cylinder for the Legacy and Outback two row vehicles seem to be OK, but the three row SUV, the Ascent, is being destroyed by the 6 cylinder Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade.

As Mazda tries to take on Lexus, I guess they want the engines to compare.

Mazda apparently agrees with me. They went back into the cupboards and found the missing horsepower, at least for the US market CX-90, they forgot for the Euro, Japanese, aussie markets.

Decent numbers, nothing earth shattering but also not embarrassing.
