Where do Memphians tend to go for outdoor water activities like boating, water skiing, or riding jet skis? This is one of my favorite hobbies during warm summer months.

Looking on a map, it looks like the closest lakes are Arkabutia and Sardis in northern Mississippi, but I have no idea if these are okay for boating. Do people drive to the lakes in northern Arkansas or Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri?

Most everyone around here goes to Pickwick lake. People who have cottages, enjoy boating, water skiing etc. A few go to the Hot Springs area as well.

Yeah Pickwick is the place for that stuff. Can't say it appeals much to me, though.

Most folks go to Pickwick. I prefer Greers Ferry/Heber Springs. It's more of a lake town if you know what I mean. The drive is a hassle though. It takes about 4 hours but the surroundings are nice.

Arkabutla Lake is much closer, over 100 miles to Pickwick and about 50 to Arkabutla near Coldwater, Mississippi. A straight shot down I-55. There are several boat ramps and picnic areas.

Corps Lakes Gateway: Mississippi - Arkabutla Lake

Are jet skis and tubing allowed on these lakes? I'm looking for a fun atmosphere too, similar to Lake of the Ozarks if you've ever been there.

Pickwick and Greers Ferry (Heber Springs, AR) are more suited to jet skis, etc. as they are more expansive and have clearer water. Arkabutla is close, but appears a little muddy. Sardis is a few miles further south, is bigger and less murky.

Enid is another popular choice....just a bit further down I-55.

I am not into watersports, but what about Reelfoot? It is an option maybe.

Reelfoot is a neat experience, especially considering the history, but it is shallow and full of cypress knees. It's great for cruising around in patented wooden inboard boats as you slide over the submerged knees, maybe fishing a little and watching for Bald Eagles. Jet skis would be illeagal and probably suicidal!
