The I-55 bridge crossing the Mississippi will be shut down in order to reconstruct the the I-55/Crump Boulevard interchange.

The only you'll be able to go between Memphis and Arkansas is to take I-40. This will be one huge clusterfudge.

I-55 bridge will close for 9 months, cost $35M - FOX Carolina 21

Are they just working on the interchange, or are they performing bridge maintenance as well?

Other than the West Memphis Walmart being closer than Cordova, is there any reason to go to Arkansas? That old interchange should have been re-done a long time ago, so this seems like a small price to pay. Just hope they keep the trucks off Riverside Dr. and keep the speed limit down.

I haven't come across anything to suggest any bridge maintenance. However, it would be the perfect time to do maintenance, as there will be no traffic to work with.

That's what I'm thinking. Closing the entire bridge to work on an interchange seems rather extreme if there is no work being done on the bridge itself. I don't know what kind of shape the bridge is in, but given the general state of most older bridges in this country (and at 66 years, I'd say it qualifies as old), I think it would be prudent to any needed or preventative maintenance.
