I searched this subforum and couldn't find a running thread that pulled together development news. This is a standard feature in some other forums and could go a long way towards spurring discussion about Memphis' ongoing development (which is pretty robust at the moment) and allow new folks a central place to become acquainted with many positive traits of the city.

In what could eventually be a $7 billion investment, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has unveiled an expansion plan that will not only increase the hospital’s ammunition in its war against childhood cancer, but also expand its research into sickle cell anemia.

According to a statement from St. Jude, the project will unfold over the next six years and is expected to add more than 1,000 new positions for faculty and staff.

The $55 million joint venture between Henry Turley Co. and Community Capital is scheduled to go before the Downtown Memphis Commission Design Review Board Wednesday. Developers are asking for design approval on new construction and improvements for a six-screen movie theater, new apartment buildings and the Memphis Farmers Market.

Belz Enterprises has submitted plans to demolish the Towery Building and the former Country Hearth Inn in Midtown to build a $43.69 million mixed-use development.

That was hilarious! Yes that is definitely SoDoSoPa! With views of "historic" Starbucks!

You should visit Nashville so you can really see it in action, nearly EVERY corner in the city limits is SoDoSoPa ( SoBro, the Gulch, Berry Hill, 12South to name a few)

My apologies for digressing! MEMPHIS is definitely making strides in development/redevelopment that more genuinely articulates our soul and sense of place and community. I think our development is aligned with being careful not to become Anycity USA. That's what makes people love this place!

The airport is gaining a lot of traction these days. More and more flights are being added in a short amount of time. I believe the pace is swifter than the rate they were reduced. Confidence is returning by evidence of multimillion dollar investment being made in the airport and carriers' response by adding flights. There are those who will continue to complain and refuse to acknowledge the growth all around Memphis because they choose to keep their head stuck in the sand. I choose 901!

Two Ohio-based development firms plan to build a new hotel on a vacant site in Downtown Memphis.

The Orlean Co. of Beachwood, Ohio, and Ceres Development LLC of Westlake, Ohio, plan on building a Cambria Suites on a 3.3-acre lot on the south side of Union across from Fourth Street, just west of Danny Thomas Boulevard.
New Hotel Planned for Downtown Memphis - Memphis Daily News

This article is from July. At the last council meeting, the city approved the development plan that would permit the four-story structure to be built across Union Ave from Fielder Square, and beside Vista Inn & Suites.

The former French Quarter hotel is no more and things are moving along pretty well for the new performing arts development. It was interesting to see its skeleton. It was built pretty robust considering it was only four stories tall. They had a hard time with the demo initially as a result.

The surface parking lot behind Overton Square is being marketed for development as well.

The last I heard, the French Quarter hotel was being demolished for another boutique hotel! Interesting that it will now become a performing arts space. Do you know any more details?

Ballet Memphis got a 10million dollar donation that will take care of the purchase of the property and the construction of the new facility. The donor got in touch with the hotel group and somehow convinced them to sell to Ballet Memphis plus they now have 4 million reasons to go back to the drawing board for their hotel plans.
