Does anyone know anything about the Racquet Club of Memphis? Is it really hard to become a member? Is it basically a country club? And generally what kind of people are members? Thanks in advance!

My impression is that it is pretty hoity-toity, which makes it sound expensive, too.

It's basically a country club. Mostly Memphis old money. A lot of parishoners from St. Louis Catholic church around the corner from the Racquet Club are members. The CEO of the Racquet Club is also a parishoner at St. Louis. Many people's social life revolves around that church and that club.

I was a member of the RC for several years. There is a lot of aggravation that is currently going on right now and has been for a while--management-wise.

If you are not interested in playing tennis or Racquet Ball, I would definitely suggest looking into the Chickasaw Country Club.

It is pretty "hoity toity" but a lot of that attitude is avoidable.

Do you have children? If you do, they would enjoy the pool in the summer time. Most of the people are health nuts and there are all of these awkward rules that the club has about having guests, the locker room, dining room, etc.

If you want to see "old money" then the Memphis Country Club is right up your alley.

Again, if you are not a tennis family then this might not be the club for you.
